This guide focuses on the secret mistake holding players across all ranks, not saving your flip.
Whenever the ball is low in the air, whether that is a shot, save, or clear, many players will instinctively fast aerial up for it. At hindsight, nothing might seem wrong, but this fast aerial alone has the capability of keeping you from more intentional offense and defence.
Let’s start with offense, take a look at the following two shots, which one looks harder to save as a defender?
Shot A:
Shot B:
Shot B is harder to defend since it is properly placed in the corner, has more power and has more intent. When you fast aerial for these shots, you’re removing your chances of properly aiming and landing your shot with intent, hindering your overall shooting consistency.
When you save your flip on the shot, a lot of games can be closed out way easier and faster thanks to proper shooting. Saving your flip is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to shooting, if you want to land better shots, follow these 3 steps
1. Hold your jump and boost to gain height fast
2. Point your stick to wherever you want the ball to go to aim better
3. Make contact with the corner of your car for maximum power and precision

Let’s move on to defence, the aforementioned concept still applies for low aerial saves/clears. When you fast aerial into a save, you’re limiting precision and power, resulting in your touches being hit back to the opponents 9/10 times.
In the above clip, the defender fast aerials into the save, removing any chance of exerting enough power for the save to be effective enough.
Let’s take a look what happens when a player saves his flip.
Even though the defender had almost no initial momentum going into the save, he was able to direct the ball into safety by simply saving his second jump. This can be applied to higher shots too, when defending aerial 1v1s, saving your flip alone increases your chances of saving the ball, since having that second flip allows you to cover more area.
