The Secret to Getting Consistent Flicks

This guide focuses on the secret way to getting consistent flicks

Flicks are one of the most effective ways to get an attack started, due to them being very low risk and usually forcing defenders to move and waste boost. When players start to learn flicks, this is what it usually looks like:

In this clip, notice how the player instantly uses both jumps as soon immediately, resulting in a flick that pops the ball up with no controllable power or direction. This is because when you instantly use your jumps, the ball leaves the car immediately, allowing no time to aim or adjust, making the flick less powerful and easier to read and defend.

Here, the player slightly delays his second jump. That small delay allows the car to push the ball forward instead of just popping it up. You’ll notice the ball travels further, even without extra boost. Pairing this delayed flick with extra speed will allow the ball to become even more threatening.

Next step is holding your boost through the flick, when at lower speeds, delaying your flip won’t be enough, so holding down your boost makes your car faster, which in return pushes the ball further even faster. The first two steps alone will look like this:

Holding down air roll before the second jump is the final step, as it allows the car to rotate further. This added rotation allows the car’s hitbox to interact with the ball for slightly longer, creating a “two-touch” effect that adds power. This is especially useful for diagonal and mawkzy flicks.

This air roll is applicable for almost all types of flicks apart from Musty and Breezi flicks, where instead of air rolling, flip cancelling your jump would help on the actual scoop.
