This guide focuses on the easiest way to learn a consistent speed flip.
A lot of tutorials nowadays focus too much on complicating simple mechanics, such as a speed flip. For this mini guide’s sake, we will only focus on the left speed flip. To apply this for the right speed flip, simply mirror the steps on the opposite side.
Step 1:
Step 1 is simple, simply diagonal flip to the left by holding your stick to the top left of the analogue whilst tapping your jump button twice.
Step 2:
Step 2 is where most people get confused, as it introduces a mechanic called “flip cancelling”. A flip cancel is when you point your stick to the opposite direction whilst you flip, when done correctly, your car will sort of stall out.
To apply this into the mini tutorial, since you have to point our stick to the top left of the analogue, all we have to do is point your stick to the bottom right as you’re flipping. This gives us the correct flip cancel for our speed flip.
Step 3:
Step 3 is the final part, to achieve the speed flip, we have to rotate our car back up to keep moving. What is left is to do is to point your stick back to top left whilst holding your air roll to actually rotate your car.
When done right, you should see your car “scoop” back up into proper position
Many players miss out on this step, as a result they tend to just point their stick up which ends up in their car not moving at all.
Once you understand the principles behind the speed flip, like any mechanic, what’s left is putting in the reps to ingrain it into your muscle memory.
If you’re hard-stuck Platinum–Diamond, speed flips aren’t optional anymore.
The Platinum → Champion course shows what you’re missing beyond this mechanic.
